Through improvisation we will give ourselves to the journey of dance and its infinite possibilities. We will learn how not to inhibit the movements that come from the body and how to keep ourselves focused on our intention of generating movement and acting on its power of expression.
All this will be done by investigating the movement using certain tools, games and premises that will help us to discover new forms and qualities. We will work on the active listening and the presence, sharing the space with other bodies.
The objectives of these sessions will be: to find multiple alternatives of movement, to develop personal gestures, to free creativity, to react spontaneously to a stimulus, to record the unexpected, to apply principles of composition and interpretation and open to others to continue exploring, creating and enjoying.
Maria Hernando studied Contemporary Dance in Salzburg (SEAD), Nova York (Tisch School of the Arts NYU) and Barcelona (Area, Espai de dansa i creació). She is especially interested in improvisation, instant composition and authentic movement. Some of the renown professors in this discovery of the movement and creating are Fabiana Capriotti, Gema Diaz, Thomas Hauert, Martin Kilvady, Cecilia Colacrai and Julyen Hamilton, with whom she works and together brought to the stage “Silver liquid, Silver thread”.
She is a member of the Producció Nacional de Dansa de Catalunya, under the direction of Roser López Espinosa (“L’Estol”) and Thomas Noone (“Many”). She is also part of La Petita Malumaluga, a company specialized in shows for babies, with whom she has presented this work at Grec, Tàrrega Fair 2017 and the TNC.
Soon she will release “Gran Bolero” by Jesús Rúbio, a co-production between the Mercat de las Flors and Teatros del Canal (Madrid). Formerly she has been part of the company Divadlo Studio Tanca (Slovakia) where she performed pieces by choreographers such as Julyen Hamilton, Jozef Frucek, Peter Mika and Olga Cobos, Stanislava Vlceková, Milan and Zuna Kozanek and Tomas Danielis, among others. She also has worked as a freelance in Europe for Ivana Müller and Renan Martins d’Oliveira.
She teaches contemporary dance, creative dance and improvisation in different centers and conservatories here and abroad.
